Event Information

It is very costly to put on a run and a large part of the entry fee simply covers the costs. As this is an event to raise funds for the East Anglian Children’s Hospice (EACH) we would ask competitors to try to obtain sponsorship for their run. A suggested minimum figure to raise would be £25.

Refunds will only be given if requested by the 18th April and will be subject to a 5% administration charge. Cancellations after 20th April will not be entitled to a refund. Sadly, due to the administration involved we do not offer the chance to transfer your place.

Entry Conditions

This is a multi-terrain event and all competitors enter it at their own risk. While medical assistance is provided for the duration of the event no liability will be accepted by either hoohaah, Wimpole Estate or individual race organisers for any injury incurred by entering this race.

Pictures and video footage may be used on the hoohaah website or that of our sponsors and in advertising material and media write-ups. All competitors entering either fun run agree to their photograph being used for these purposes.

Entrants must be 16 years or over to enter the 10km.  It is a condition of entry that all competitors agree to the terms and conditions as set out on the hoohaah website.

All competitors who complete the runs are entitiled to a medal. Anyone entering the 10km series or ‘Progression’ series will be entitled to a hoodie on successful completion of all runs in the appropriate series.  We will endeavour to give you the correct size hoodie but, subject to stock availability, we reserve the right to give an alternative size.

Closing date for entry is 12th May 2014.

The registration desk at the race start will be open from 8.30-9.45am where race numbers and chips should be collected. Please note race numbers and chips will not be sent out in the post prior to the event.

To collect your number please queue in alphabetical surname order behind the desk dealing with that letter. The desks will be marked.

Please allow sufficient time to collect and attach your chip prior to the run.

Entries to the 5km run are allowable on the day but will not be chip timed. No entries are allowed on the day for the 10km.

The Course

The route is a multi-terrain course around the picturesque National Trust property, Wimpole Estate. The route will include stretches of footpaths, woodland and meadows. Wimpole Estate is nestled in rolling countryside and some moderate hills form part of the course. Parts of the course may be muddy and all terrain running shoes are advisable.

There is ample parking at Wimpole although some parts may be on a field. Please follow the car park attendants instructions and take care entering and leaving the estate. Please note that parking is free to National Trust members displaying their sticker. For non-members there is a charge for the car park of £2 payable on arrival. This will either be collected by the car parking assistants or from the ticket machines.

If you are a National Trust member you will be required to show your NT card when entering the estate so please bring it with you.

Please note the car park charge is levied by the National Trust to help them maintain the car park and grounds and is not a charge made by hoohaah.

All cars parked in the car park do so entirely at their own risk and the race organisers or land owners accept no responsibility for any loss or damage to vehicles or valuables parked there.

For more information see the Wimpole Estate website.

Race Headquarters

A gazebo will be positioned near the race start and this is where registration will take place and any race queries can be resolved.

Race Start

This will be clearly visible by the inflatable gantry and is located close to the car park.

Prize giving

This is a charity fun run staffed by volunteers and, while all effort will be made to record finish times, the organisers take no responsibility for failure to record times accurately. The results have been contracted out to a third party and they will record the 10km times by chip timing. The organisers accept no responsibility for equipment failure or an inability to capture finish times in any way.  Failure to secure your chip in line with the instructions or to lose it will mean your time is not recorded.

We use British Atheletics rules in arriving at winners. These rules use gun rather than chip times. Hoohaah base their winners on the information supplied by the chip timing company and do not accept responsibility for any errors.

If an accurate race time is imperative to competitors we ask that they bring their own watches to record their times.

All times will be uploaded to the website hopefully from the Sunday evening. All recorded times are final and no dispute will be entered into.

Medical Support

Qualified first aiders will be on hand at the race head quarters to assist with any injuries.  Please note you should seek medical advice from your local GP if you are in any doubt as to your health in competing in this event. The organisation will not be held responsible for any injury, accident, loss or damage that may arise before, during or after the event as a consequence of a competitor’s participation in the race.

If you are injured on the course please speak to one of the marshals who will contact the first aiders.

Health and Safety

  • MP3 players- Parts of the route will include crossing private road junctions where cars are entering and leaving the estate and we therefore strongly advise you NOT to wear headsets during the race for the safety of yourself and others.
  • Dogs- While Wimpole welcomes responsible dog owners and you may encounter some dogs on the course we do ask competitors not to run with dogs in the interest of safety to other runners.
  • Any children under 12 should be accompanied by an adult. 5km can be a long distance for a young child and our marshals are unable to leave their post to take a child who has pulled out of the run or become distressed and being lost or separated from a parent back to the start.

Training Plan

For anyone new to running who has set this run as their personal fitness challenge, we have put a plan together as well as listing some useful links:

Changing, Toilets, Baggage: There are portable loos for male and female runners at the car park. Please be aware that Wimpole is open to the general public on the day of the race and we would ask you to use the loos provided and not the bushes or trees as families and children will be visiting the hall. There are no changing facilities at  Wimpole. As the car park is so close to the race start and finish we are not providing a manned baggage store area. Baggage may be left in the registration tent just before the race start but, this is unmanned and all baggage and personal belongings are left at the owner’s risk. The race organisers will not take responsibility for any losses or damage incurred.

Refreshments: Hot and cold drinks are available at the catering van at the race start or, from the stable café.

Complaints: The organisers have taken every step possible to ensure this is a fun, safe and enjoyable event. The race has been organised by and with the help of volunteers to raise money for charity. We hope you will take the run in the spirit in which it is intended. If however, you do have cause for complaint please would you direct it to the race directors at the race HQ where a formal written complaint will be recorded. This is so we can ensure the event is improved on where possible for future years.

Photography: Our official race photographer is Mark Bartley. Photographs will be uploaded to his gallery soon after the run. Full details of the link to this will be notified to all runners once they have been uploaded and can be purchased direct from there. Please note that a condition of entering the Wimpole 5/10k hoohaah is that photographs may be used in future by the photographer and hoohaah for marketing purposes.

Massage: Post run ‘taster’ sports massage is being offered by Fit Again Sports Therapy. This will hopefully be free of charge and subject to availability. Please keep checking the website for more information. Donations will be gratefully recieved by EACH and will be collected in the massage tent.

Race Warm up: This will take place about 5-10mins before the race start and will be provided by Juliet Clarke of Joolz Clarke Body Conditioning.
